Fearing that the quality of cotton would be harmed, the Agriculture Minister, Ms Janat Mukwaya warned cotton farmers in the district not to use untreated cotton seeds supplied by unscrupulous dealers.

She was talking to farmers last week at Pallisa about how sub-standard cotton seeds would lower the quality of Uganda's cotton in the global market.

Though the seeds are low-priced, they will ultimately affect the cotton prices negatively, she added.

It ius learnt that nearly 30 tons of untreated cotton seeds have been sold out to farmers in the district.

She stressed that the Cotton Development Organisation (CDO) is the sole agency marketing cotton output through approved ginners operating in zones as cotton dealer in the country, said Mukwaya.

The Minister of State for Industry, Ms Jennifer Namuyangu informed the residents not to mix politics with economic activities.

The Managing Director of CDO, Ms Jolly Sabune directed farmers to set up groups through which they would be supported to produce and market the cotton at good prices.
