The American Agriculture Department (AAD), recently reported that US is likely to produce nearly 18.5 million bales of cotton of which it will export about 16.7 million bales in the period 2007 to 2008.

China on the other hand will see a decline in cotton output reaching to 34 million packages because of bad weather. Known for being the biggest consumer of cotton, China consumes nearly 55 million packages of cotton every year and will therefore need to import an approximate of 15 million packages.

Besides, in order to overshadow the effects of inferior quality cotton, China may even have to increase its domestic production. Furthermore, AAD also presumes that because of pests infecting the crops, the cotton output of Pakistan may decrease to 9 million packages.

India, however, will see an increase in cotton production making it easier for China to import on a large scale.
