Cotton picking sees final phase in Oct

The cotton production findings of the monitoring project group of China Cotton Association showed that China's cotton picking in most areas entered final stages by the end of October 2007. Market operation of unginned cotton purchasing was basically steady. The average progress of cotton picking and sales represented 86.3 percent and 56.4 percent, respectively.

The overall price level was higher than that of 2006; some cotton farmers were reluctant to sell their harvested cotton. The survey results showed that the weather in main cotton-growing areas was sunny and friendly to cotton harvest in late October.

The purchase price of unginned cotton rose in inland areas but fell in Xinjiang rejoin. The national average price was mostly steady. The average progress of the state cotton picking and sales represented 86.3 percent and 56.4 percent, respectively, by October 30.

By October 30, the average sales progress of the investigated cotton farmers was 56.4 percent, 5.4 percentage points higher than mid-October. The average price was 6.03 yuan per kg, up 0.01 yuan per kg, or 0.2 percent.
