Cotton acres in 2008 are likely to fall even beyond last year's crop, which was considered to be the smallest produce making history. The average yield has reached 1,000 pounds per acre in Mississippi.
Cotton expert from Mississippi State University Extension also showed concern adding that cotton acres could cut down to as low as 500,000 depending on pressure from prices of soybean and wheat.
In the year 2007, farmers in Mississippi dropped 43 percent of their cotton acres for cultivating wheat. Cotton plantation acreage reduced to more than 60 percent.
