The price of cotton has been running low for quite some time now and as a consequence, farmers in Arizona are opting to cultivate other crops that assures more attractive revenue for individuals in particular and for the industry in general.
Earlier, cotton production had been one of the most significant and reliable means for generating revenue for the state. However, it has of late been assigned with a risk factor that is constantly threatening the farmers.
The average cotton production of Arizona this season is expected to reach 5,35,000 bales, down by 6 percent compared to last year's production.
Although, the yield per acre remains productive, there has been an over all decline in acreage plantation. For instance, at 1,81,000 acres, it is still down by 16,000 acres from last year.
According to the statistics of USDA, this year, cotton acreage dropped by 28 percent nationwide making it the lowest in 18-years.
