It is learned from Qingdao Customs that cotton imports through Shandong ports sharply dropped in the first 10 months this year due to some factors relating to quotas and tariffs.

According to statistics, Shandong ports imported 841,000 tons cotton in the first 10 months 2007, worth of US $1.18 billion, down 34 percent and 31.6 percent from the same period last year, respectively.

In the first 10 months, Shandong ports imported 316,000 tons cotton for processing trade, down 19.6 percent on year, accounting for 37.6 percent of the total imports, while imports for general trade marked 165,000 tons, a sharp decline of 56.2 percent. Bonded warehouse imported 211,000 tons, down 21.8 percent.
