The State of Haryana is currently seeing a hike in cotton arrivals in the market as the figures have risen considerably to 50,000 quintals this season, compared to the same period last year.
The overall inflow of cotton in the state has soared by 20.52 lakh quintals this year compared to the arrival of 20.02 lakh quintals last year.
In an exclusive interview with Fibre2fashion, Ms Sumita Mishra Singh, Director of Agriculture, Haryana, disclosed, “Cotton is one of the main Kharif season cash crops of the state and it has been grown over an area of 4.86 lakh hectares during 2007. Out of this, more than 60 percent area has been covered under Bt. Cotton and consequently productivity of cotton crop has been increased”.
Quite obviously, Haryana is expecting to see a greater yield in cotton production with an increase to 650 kilogram of lint per hectare from the 582 kilogram of the previous year.
