Notably this year, the Chinese Government twice issued 1.4 million tons of extra import quotas for cotton.
Adding this with 894,000 tons issued in September 2004 and the 200,000 tons left over from previous year, total import stood at 2.5 million tons this year.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Agriculture statistics reveal that this year in the first half, China imported 847,000 tons of cotton registering steep decline of 43.7 percent from the previous year.
For the second half this year, the Ministry has forecast further rise in the cotton demand.
