Cotton farmers in the upper east region of Ghana are joining hands to move the Government for lending support to the dying cotton industry.
Farmers have attempted to influence the Government in a way so that it could help increase the production as well as market their produce.
These measures had to be taken since farmers were afraid of not being able to cultivate this year due to insufficient support from cotton companies.
Three out of eleven companies came forward with assistance last year, but this time the situation is deplorable.
None of the companies have given a positive response to help the farmers in cotton cultivation this year.
Deliberating on the present crisis at a forum held recently, farmers said that despite larger and more fertile land, Ghana was continuously facing a doom with regard to its cotton production compared to neighbors like Burkina Faso and Mali.
Helplessly left to the vagaries of critical times, farmers took resort to the Government urging it to amend policy that allows importation of cotton products.
Cotton Growers Association recommended farmers to stay united so as to vociferously voice their needs in front of the central authorities.
