Cotton import rise considerably in Q1

Although in recent years, the textile industry of Vietnam has flourished, it has to rely a lot on imports of raw materials from various countries.

According to Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the textile and apparel industry of Vietnam imported nearly 72,789 tons of cotton of all types, worth almost US $106.75 million in the first quarter of 2008.

Among all the countries that supplied raw material to Vietnam, India remained at the top and earned nearly $39.5 million of foreign currency. Second position was occupied by US that gained $31 million by exporting cotton to Vietnam, followed by UK, Taiwan and Brazil.
