Chinese scientist first to commercialise transgenic cotton breed

Scientist Guo Sandui, 'father of Chinese transgenetic cotton,' and his research colleagues developed cotton breeding at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. This discovery has not only made China the first in the world to commercialise a cotton breed but also receive praise from officials and experts over the weekend. This cotton strain can withstand bollworms and increase production up to 25 percent.
National Crop Cultivation Assessment Committee approved Guo's 'Yinmian 2' after many years; as per the Ministry of Agriculture, the committee sanctioned its commercial utilisation.
If planted on the 3.33 million hectares of land under cultivable environment, the three-line hybrid cotton with insect-resistant gene, will hypothetically enhance production by one million tons per annum.
