The recent stimulus package announced by the Australian Government contains a controversial clause concerning purchase of water license's in the Murray Darling water basin, which has raised the hackles of the cotton farming community bordering the basin.

Chief Executive of Cotton Australia, Mr Adam Kay said that package was pushed through without due consideration for the long term impact on regional communities, and considering that it is a stimulus package, he does not see effects of the same, stimulating the local economies.

The federal government had recently announced a stimulus package amounting to Au $42 billion, of which Au $900 million has been allocated for the purchase of water licence's in the Murray Darling water basin.
