Cotton planting area to rebound in 2010

China's cotton planting area is projected to rebound to 85 million mu (one hectare = 15 Chinese mu) in 2010 and lint yield is expected to reach 92 kg per mu and total national production projected to touch 7.80 million tons.

The proportion of long-staple, medium long-staple, medium short cotton fibre in 2010 will also change from 2:93:5 to 3:90:7.

Further moving to 2015, cotton planting area is projected to stabilize at about 85 million mu, with yields touching 95 kg per mu and total production amounting to about 8.10 million tons, with a aim to meet over 50 percent of domestic demand.

The proportions among long-staple, medium long-staple and medium short cotton fibre in 2015 has been adjusted at 5:85:10.
