According to "Statistical Bulletin of National Economic and Social Development 2008" released by the National Bureau of Statistics, China's cotton acreage stood at 5,760,000 hectares in 2008, a reduction of 170,000 hectares year-on-year.
Cotton production touched 7.5 million tons, a 1.6 percent decline over the previous year. This low production still has not aroused concerns in the market since, due to the global slowdown, consumption has fallen.
