According to the latest bulletin released by the "National Economic and Social Development Statistics Department” of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the total crop area in Xinjiang region was 68.05 million mu (one hectare=15 Chinese Mu) in 2008, an increase of 3.2 percent.
Of which, cotton sown area was 25.02 million mu, down 6.4 percent. However, cotton production realized 3,015,500 tons, an increase of 4.0 percent.
