Cotton imports plunge from Jan-Aug

In August this year, China's cotton imports fell by 41 percent year on year, down to 109,663 tons, when compared with imports totaling to 186,805 tons in August 2008.

From January to August this year, China imported 976,021 tons of cotton, again down 41 percent year on year. In July too, cotton imports had fallen by 38 percent to 131400 tons.

China is the world's largest cotton importer, and sources most of its requirements from major such as such as the United States, Uzbekistan, India and Australia.
