Textile Trade Seminar developing potential trade in cotton textiles

An international seminar was held in Taipei, China (Taiwan) on 1 October 2005 sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
The seminar was organized by the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) and the ICAC Co-organizers of the seminar were the Taiwan Spinners' Association, the Taiwan Textile Research Institute, Far Eastern Textile Ltd, Tah Tong Textile Co Ltd., and Ciba Specialty Chemicals (Taiwan) Ltd. There were 120 participants from 32 countries in the seminar.
The seminar focused on potential growth in world trade in cotton textiles and apparel and investment opportunities in the textile industry. Presentations and discussions at the seminar covered numerous subjects, including an outlook for world trade in cotton textiles, how to face free trade in cotton textiles, potential for expanded trade in textiles, and the role of the government in stimulating growth and investment opportunities for the textile industry.
The seminar complemented the Taipei International Textile & Apparel Show (TITAS), also organized by the TTF, and held between 29 September and 1 October 2005.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by Mr. Roger J. Ho, Chairman of the Taiwan Textile Federation, Mr. Y.C. Chen, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Elena M. Cores, First Vice Chair of the Standing Committee of the ICAC and Mr. Steve Ruey-Long Chen, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, R.O.C.
