China undergoes a deceleration in cotton product exports in Sept

33.2 percent of all US textile and apparel imports came from China in 2005. That figure declined to 24 percent in cotton goods.
Registering annual growth of 54.7 percent, September cotton product imports from China amounted to 417.7 million square meters.
This quantity registered the lowest mark of imports since April and the slowest rate of expansion since January. From January to September, total cotton product imports from China rose by 72.3 percent to 3.846 bln metres.
Cotton product imports recorded only 30.2 percent of all U.S. textiles and apparel imports from China; 53.8 percent of all cotton product imports are cotton apparel.
Competitive price benefits of India and Pakistan have posed a tough challenge for China. This price benefit has been most apparent in cotton products.
U.S. imports of cotton goods from China have registered increase of only 29.5 percent, compared to the total increase rate of 46.0 percent. India and Pakistan are emerging as major exporters in the categories of cotton products to the US.
However, robust expansion has been apparent across many of the key cotton apparel categories. The top categories are cotton nightwear, women's and girl's cotton coats, women's and girl's slacks, cotton sheets, dress gowns, men's and boy's trousers, bedspreads and cotton underwear.
