According to preliminary statistics, 2010 national cotton acreage has dropped 2-3 percent from the previous year, according to the investigation conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics and Cotton Department of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

However, it is still difficult to determine the harvest in 2010, because low temperatures in April have delayed cotton sowing.

The state recently announced an increase by 800,000 tons of cotton import quotas, due to the situation of tight cotton supply, taking the total import quotas to about 2.7 million tons.

The state is expected to release 300,000 tons of National Cotton Reserves, thus, taking additional released quantity of raw cotton in recent times to 1.1 million tons.
