With the State of Gujarat set to deliver bumper cotton output this season, Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) and other agencies have begun purchasing cotton lint from farmers at the current market price or minimum support price (MSP).
So far, CCI has purchased 150,000 quintals from its 33 regular centres and 24 additional centres set within the state.
Presently, the average price of raw cotton is Rs 1970, which is above the minimum support price.
Announcing a record two million hectares of land under cotton cultivation this year, Agriculture Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendrasinh Chudasma instructed government departments and other concerned agencies at Gandhinagar in a meeting recently, that farmers get remunerative prices.
