Uproar over poor quality imported cotton seeds

The recent influx of imported poor quality cotton seeds has been voraciously condemned by one and all in Paraguay. Some experts have even gone to the extent of calling it as a “crime and playing a poor joke” with the cotton cultivating farmers of the country.

The farmers had to buy these seeds as the supply of genuine cotton seeds was very limited within the country and were also not aware if these imported seeds would adapt to the soil conditions and as to which pests are susceptible.

The National Service of Quality and Plant Health and Seeds (SENAVE), had been authorized to import the seeds and is now under attack from agriculture experts for the poor quality of seeds, which have even been termed fake by a few.
