Estimates for raw cotton output in Turkmenistan for 2010 have been revised from 1.0 million tons to 1.3 million tons. Fair weather was the chief factor that contributed towards the higher crop size. The country is one of the major exporters of cotton in the world and had initially estimated its raw cotton output at 1.05 million tons. 550,000 hectares area was devoted to cotton cultivation.

There is no data available for the cotton crop size of 2009. In 2008, the overall cotton output was 1.0 million tons while it was 950,000 tons in 2007. Most of the vital official data are often not available and even if they are available, economists often raise question on their authenticity.

Turkmenistan exported about 1.1 million cotton bales in the 2009 marketing year. This enabled the country to emerge as the sixth biggest cotton exporter of the world.
