Cotton output in Malawi is expected to climb from 29,000 tons last year to 58,000 tons this season.

At the same time Malawi cotton farmers are also reaping a bonanza.

Cotton or the white gold as it is referred to, is selling at more than double the minimum support price recommended by the government.

Against a support price of 75 kwacha or 50 US cents, farmers are selling their cotton at 190 kwacha ($1.26).
