India hikes minimum support price of cotton

The government of India announced a hike in the minimum support price (MSP) of cotton for the 2011-12 season.

It has hiked the prices of both medium staple and long-staple length fibre varieties of cotton by Rs 300 per quintal (one quintal = 100 kg), respectively.

The new MSP of medium staple length cotton fibre will be Rs 2,800 per quintal and of long-staple Rs 3,300 per quintal.
