During the marketing year 2023-24, which extended from August 2023 to February 2024, Pakistan's cotton arrivals surged to 83.93 lakh bales, each weighing 170 kg. This marked a substantial increase from the previous year's total arrival of 48.75 lakh bales, representing a remarkable growth of 72.16 per cent as per data released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA).

Normally, cotton influx begins annually in August. However, in this marketing year, it started in July due to early sowing and favourable weather conditions, positively impacting the crop. This is a stark contrast to the previous year when heavy rains and floods severely affected cotton production in the main cotton-producing states.

As of February 29, 2024, cotton arrivals from July 2023 to February 2024 reached 83,93,090 bales. The arrival totalled 48,75,222 bales during the 2022-23 season, according to PCGA.

A provincial breakdown of the data showed that Sindh province recorded cotton arrivals of 41.14 lakh bales from July 2023 to February 2024. It was 118 per cent higher than the arrival of 18,79,019 bales till February 28, 2023. Meanwhile, Punjab witnessed the arrival of 42,78,312 lakh bales. The arrival was noted at 29,92,603 bales as of February 28, 2023.
