US Upland cotton sales down 47%, Pima up 27% this week: USDA

Net sales of Upland cotton in the United States for the 2024-25 season totalled 166,900 running bales (RB), each weighing 226.8 kg (500 pounds), during the week ending February 20, 2025. This represents a decrease of 47 per cent from the previous week and 35 per cent from the prior four-week average. US cotton export shipments were also lower than in the previous week.

The increases were primarily for Vietnam (43,000 RB, including 1,100 RB switched from Hong Kong, 500 RB switched from South Korea, 100 RB switched from Japan, and decreases of 5,300 RB), China (31,100 RB), Turkiye (26,700 RB), Pakistan (21,200 RB, including decreases of 2,300 RB), and Peru (13,500 RB). These gains were offset by reductions for Costa Rica (2,600 RB) and South Korea (500 RB). Net sales of 32,600 RB for the 2025-26 season were primarily for Turkiye (13,200 RB), Honduras (8,800 RB), Vietnam (4,800 RB), Costa Rica (2,600 RB), and Peru (2,500 RB).

Cotton exports for the week totalled 267,500 RB, down 10 per cent from the previous week but up 15 per cent from the prior four-week average. The primary destinations were Vietnam (80,300 RB), Pakistan (52,700 RB), India (25,000 RB), Turkiye (24,100 RB), and China (15,100 RB).

Net sales of Pima cotton totalled 22,000 RB for 2024-25, up 27 per cent from the previous week and significantly higher than the prior four-week average. The increases were mainly for India (7,400 RB), Vietnam (6,800 RB), China (5,000 RB), and Peru (2,200 RB). Pima exports for the week reached 10,100 RB, up 56 per cent from the previous week and 30 per cent from the prior four-week average. The primary destinations were India (6,700 RB), Pakistan (1,500 RB), Peru (1,100 RB), Colombia (300 RB), and Italy (200 RB).
