US weekly Upland cotton sales dip, Pima hits marketing year high: USDA

US weekly Upland cotton sales dip, Pima hits marketing year high: USDA

Net sales of Upland cotton in the United States for the 2024–25 season totalled 101,100 running bales (RB), each weighing 226.8 kg (500 pounds), during the week ending March 13, 2025. This represents a decrease of 63 per cent from the previous week and 59 per cent from the prior four-week average.

According to the USDA weekly export sales report, the increases for the week were primarily for Vietnam (73,100 RB, including 35,600 RB switched from China, 600 RB from South Korea, 100 RB from Japan, and decreases of 10,300 RB), Pakistan (18,300 RB, including decreases of 700 RB), Turkiye (18,000 RB, including decreases of 4,500 RB), Mexico (10,600 RB), and Indonesia (4,900 RB, including decreases of 400 RB). These were offset by reductions for China (49,300 RB) and Japan (200 RB).

For the week, net sales of 57,900 RB for 2025–26 were primarily for Guatemala (19,200 RB), Bangladesh (9,900 RB), Turkiye (8,900 RB), Mexico (6,600 RB), and Honduras (5,900 RB). Exports totalled 351,000 RB, down 13 per cent from the previous week, but up 8 per cent from the prior four-week average. The main destinations were Vietnam (84,900 RB), Pakistan (80,500 RB), Turkiye (50,000 RB), India (24,600 RB), and Indonesia (16,800 RB).

Net sales of Pima cotton totalled 26,500 RB for 2024–25—a marketing year high—up noticeably from the previous week and up 93 per cent from the prior four-week average. Increases were primarily for India (14,200 RB), Peru (4,800 RB), Pakistan (2,600 RB), Ethiopia (2,600 RB), and Vietnam (1,200 RB, including 100 RB switched from Japan), which were offset by reductions for Hong Kong (900 RB) and Japan (100 RB). Exports of 16,700 RB—also a marketing year high—were up noticeably from both the previous week and the prior four-week average. The primary destinations were China (9,600 RB), India (3,200 RB), Vietnam (2,300 RB), Indonesia (400 RB), and Thailand (400 RB).
