Surge in cotton denim fabric imports

Demand for denim products is continuously growing, both in local as well as overseas markets.

Exports in the men's trousers section went up 29.7 percent, whereas that in women's bottoms increased 12.2 percent during January 2006.

Demand for denim jeans has grown dramatically inturn raising the imports.

Cotton denim jeans imports in January-February period surged 68.6 percent to reach 459,247 kilograms made of 100 percent cotton, and while 53,030 kilograms of cotton-denim blend fabric recorded almost 169.3 percent rise.

Quality denim fabric is chiefly imported from Japan and the US, whereas the common denim fabric comes from China and Hong Kong.
