Denim by Première Vision – a hit show

The first Future Denim Designers Award went to Gabriella Massey, whose project, inspired by an explosion theme, was built around a supple yet solid shirt and five-pocket jeans with precise rips and tears. After a full immersion in denim technologies and its particular finishings, Massey elaborated her collection down to the smallest detail. A soot-black shirt-jacket with a subtly frayed double collar was intended for modular wear. In contrast, a pair of jeans with a dense handle and fine weave was vigorously bleached so that only the memory of the original shade lingered in the seams. An impression of motion and clarity lifted details like the bellows-style pockets and treatments on controlled rips and puffiness, as if the explosion were already over, and the protective clothing retained only its breath and power.

Blue Gallery
Once past the entrance, visitors plunged into the deep blue denim sea in the Blue Gallery, which showcased the latest developments for autumn winter III2. With an informative, fashionoriented approach, Denim by Première Vision succeeded in showcasing the entire breadth of the sector, in all its creative and technical complexity. Organised around the theme of transformation, symbolized by the gears of an engine room, the show illustrated the various ways denim is metamorphosized - from yarn on through raw, laundered and treated fabrics - before coming to life as jeans.

Organised by fashion theme, the autumn winter III2 highlights were showcased by the Denim by Première Vision fashion team. It's a season of high-sea adventures navigating the influence of sensual workwear, turbulence in relaxed elegance and the shifting tides of modern authentics, with more sophisticated perspectives, and cleaner finishings. Stretch - natural, power-stretch or bistretch - is omni present, found in every collection, in supple second-skins for womenswear, and firmer, more solid versions for menswear. Increased suppleness is another essential theme, thanks to launderings and Lyocell or modal blends, and luxury blends with wool, cashmere or silk. Shine is attenuated, less showy, this season. It reveals itself almost by controlled accident in variations of subtle colours revealed through engineered use, patinated effects, and brownish dust. And ecofriendliness can no longer even be considered a trend but now emerges as a perennial, essential element, with eco or sustainable fibres, natural or synthetic recycled products, and natural or chemicallyresponsible dyes.

The next meeting of the jeans sector takes place at Première Vision, the 14 -16 September, at the Atelier Denim - a new alldenim area that can't be missed in the Relax universe. This area is especially targeted to fashion-industry denim players, who operate on a later calendar than that of Denim by Première Vision, in line with other ready-towear products. At the moment there are some ten companies in the Première Vision denim offer, which should be strengthened by the arrival of new denim operators. This new Première Vision initiative is aimed at addressing visitors' needs, and following the evolution of emerging fashion phenomena.

And then the entire sector will gather once again at the Halle Freyssinet for the next edition of Denim by Première Vision, the 1st and 2nd December 2010, for the launch of the spring summer 2012 season.
