Over half of e-commerce web traffic is now automated, according to Radware’s latest ‘2025 E-commerce Bot Threat Report.’ The cybersecurity firm revealed that bots—both benign and malicious—accounted for 57 per cent of traffic during the 2024 holiday season, surpassing human shoppers for the first time.
The report details a surge in AI-powered, human-like bots and a 160 per cent rise in mobile-targeted attacks. Bad bots accounted for 31 per cent of overall internet traffic, with nearly 60 per cent using advanced evasion tactics. Attackers are increasingly deploying distributed infrastructures and residential proxy networks to bypass conventional defences, while also blending bot attacks with API and application exploits in coordinated campaigns.
“Bad bots are no longer just based on simple scripts—they’re sophisticated, AI-enhanced agents capable of outsmarting traditional defenses. E-commerce providers and online retailers that rely on conventional security measures will find themselves increasingly exposed, not just during the holidays but year-round,” said Ron Meyran, vice president of cyber threat intelligence at Radware.
