Amazon India has seen a spike in demand for work from home clothing and footwear, since May 18, when e-commerce companies were allowed to deliver non-essential products in metro cities. Sellers are meeting the demand by adding inventory and additional products on Amazon India, which is a subsidiary of US-based multinational e-commerce firm Amazon.

In response to Fibre2Fashion's email asking how the company foresees COVID-19 fast-tracking India's total online shopper base, an Amazon India spokesperson said, “We have been servicing demand for essential products across the country during the lockdown and since May 18th have been happy to service demand for clothing, shoes and accessories across the country. We are seeing demand for work from home clothing and footwear, innerwear and kidswear, in addition to maternity wear and loungewear for women. These are in addition to consumer electronics, personal grooming, grocery and other essential products."

"Sellers who have been looking to restart their business are working to meet this demand by adding inventory and additional selection of products," the spokesperson added.

Amazon Fashion’s recently concluded Wardrobe Refresh Sale (WRS) was a first-ever global savings event that featured selections of top brands and unique selection from thousands of sellers, most of whom are small and medium businesses. Talking about demand during WRS, the spokesperson said, "We saw demand for men’s and women’s apparel products including t-shirts, lounge wear, women’s kurti’s, flipflops, casual shoes and sandals, as well as accessories such as watches and fashion jewellery."

In addition, "there continues to be sustained demand for products from our recently launched Mask Store which has over 1,500 styles of masks from 100+ sellers," the spokesperson said.
