Tokyo-based DataGrid has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) system that can generate ‘high quality’ renderings of people who don’t exist, with face, hair, body, etc using neural networking, a field of computing partially inspired by the biological system of the same name. Brands can personally construct the perfect model without casting real people.

Advertising and apparel e-commerce sites will use the technology for virtual modelling, the company claims.

Unrealistic beauty ideals in current advertising put pressure on people to constantly chase unattainable perfection. Therefore, the use of mathematically flawless models that don’t actually exist could soon become the trend, according to world fashion media reports.

The technology applies deep learning called Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) to learn a large number of whole body model images, DataGrid said in a press release.

The next step for the technology, according to the company, is to introduce real-life movement, by further improving the accuracy of the whole-body model automatic generation AI. (DS)
