Bangladesh recently launched an app, called Digital Business Identification (DBID), to regulate the nation’s e-commerce firms and protect the interest of consumers and entrepreneurs. Commerce minister Tipu Munshi launched DBID through which e-commerce firms can register to engage in business. Eleven companies were given DBID certificates during the launch.

Hundreds of entrepreneurs in the country came up with e-commerce solutions during the pandemic, but some of those cheated consumers.

Tipu said the office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms would provide the registration certificates after companies register themselves using the app.

He said the government is also working with the law ministry, law enforcement agencies and the Bangladesh Bank so that consumers who were cheated by some e-commerce companies could get back their money stuck in payment gateways, according to Bangla media reports.

The government is also working on three other digital platforms to ensure transparency in the e-commerce sector. The three platforms are Central Compliant Management System (CCMS), Central Logistic Trucking System (CLTP) and Interoperable Digital Transaction Platform (IDTP).

The three platforms are expected to be implemented within six months.
