The Indian department of consumer affairs recently extended the September 16 deadline issued last month for feedback from e-commerce firms and stakeholders to the draft ‘consumer protection’ guidelines to October 31. The draft was issued more than five months after the department for the promotion of industry and internal (DPIIT) issued the draft e-commerce policy.

The last month draft on consumer protection in online buying focused on ‘preventing fraud, unfair trade practices, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers,” according to a note from the consumer affairs department.

The draft e-commerce regulations issued in February this year had extensively stressed on infrastructure development, data regulation, transparency like preventing the sale of prohibited items, taxation and export promotion. (DS)
