All Bangladesh e-commerce firms will have to register with the commerce ministry within the next two months, according to a decision taken at a recent cabinet meeting. Cabinet secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said e-commerce businesses will have to keep a security deposit at Bangladesh Bank to start operations and will be monitored by intelligence agencies.Briefing the media after the meeting, Islam said if any consumer is cheated by any e-commerce company, he or she will be compensated from that fund, according to bangla media reports.
The government arrived at this decision after hundreds of customers were cheated by several e-commerce platforms like Evaly, Eorange and Dhamaka.
