Some Japanese companies are mulling over entering Bangladesh’s e-commerce sector or selling their products online in the country, according to Ito Naoki, Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh. Some such companies will be visible in Bangladesh via e-commerce platforms in future, he told the four-day World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) Bangladesh 2021.

Japanese businesses feel the potential challenges in Bangladesh include logistics issues, counterfeit products, lack of secure online payment systems, and issues related to regulatory framework and coordination, said Naoki.

Timely delivery is crucial for the success of e-commerce and facilitation of e-logistics is important, the envoy said.

If bKash succeeds further as a result of investment by Japan’s Softbank, investors will come forward to join the e-commerce bandwagon in Bangladesh, he was quoted as saying by Bangla media reports.
