The UK economy has recorded a mild contraction in the three months to October 2025. Real gross domestic product (GDP) declined by 0.1 per cent compared with the three months to July 2025, reversing modest gains seen earlier in the year, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

On a monthly basis, GDP slipped by 0.1 per cent in October 2025, following a similar decline in September. Despite the recent softness, GDP was still 1.1 per cent higher in the three months to October 2025 compared with a year earlier, even as production remained under pressure, ONS said in a release.
Manufacturing activity was a key drag on overall output during the period. Manufacturing output fell by 0.7 per cent in the three months to October 2025 compared with the three months to July 2025, with declines recorded in 6 of the 13 manufacturing subsectors. Although manufacturing showed a modest recovery monthly in October.
