The 12th campus of the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) has been inaugurated at Bihta in Patna district of Bihar state. The campus has been set up on 10-acres of land provided free-of-cost by the state government. Built at a cost of ₹115.95 crore, the institute would provide three- and four-year courses in footwear and fashion design.

A ‘centre of excellence’ would be set up on the new campus at a cost of ₹14 crore, in order to promote efficiency and innovation in leather industry, Union commerce and industry minister Suresh Prabhu said while inaugurating the new campus located in a mega industrial park on the outskirts of Patna city.

The institute aims to meet the shortage of trained manpower in India’s footwear design industry. It is equipped with modern machines and equipment for cutting, finishing and making computer-based designs. Around 300 students would pass out from the institute every year. (RKS)
