The Government of Ecuador will be investing US$ 2.6 million to set up a Centre for Development of Textiles and Apparels at Atuntaqui, 110 km north of the country’s capital Quito.

The establishment of the centre is part of the Government’s effort to strengthen the technical capacity, productivity, efficiency and competitiveness of the country’s textile and garment industry, a statement issued by the Ministry of Industry and Productivity said.

The agreement for setting up of the centre in the compound of a restored factory in Imbabura province was signed last month, according to the statement.

It said the aim behind creation of the centre is to support not only the productive activities, but also research, development and design of clothes.
