For over last 14 years the Textiles Department of the Takoradi Polytechnic has imparted training to around 1,000 persons and many of them are now working in leading textile industries in varied capacities.
Apart from the above, other graduates of the institute too have established their individual textile industries, thereby generating employment opportunities for many of the youngsters.
A official revealed that the Department's activities has had a positive impact on the overall functioning of country's textile industry, and he also divulged that the Department has tied up and registered with international organizations like the American Association of Textile Colorists and Chemists and the Textile Institute of the United Kingdom.
These organizations help the Department to improve their performance by streamlining it with periodicals and updates.
The Department has also developed a plan to set up a resource centre and library to aid the students and industry people in their research activities.
Fewer lecture halls and inadequate induction sessions are amongst the challenges that the Department has been juggling with, and thus necessitates assistance from like-minded institutions to tackle the same.
