A new record output in export-oriented fabrics has been set by cooperative societies of Erode district, from South India.

This has been possible under the government policy of extending 20 percent rebate for goods produced by a society.

The societies would prepare and supply fabric as per the requirement of exporters. The societies do not have to face the consequences if the goods are rejected.

The weavers get regular income and earn about 18 percent of the profit as salary.

Export fabric produced this year was Rs 122.14 crore compared to last year's production worth Rs 110 crore.

Fabric production of almost Rs 17.25 crore and sales of Rs 25 crore is registered every month in the district.

Under the free cloth scheme for Pongal, order for about 80 lakh dhotis has been placed by the State Government which brought festive cheer among the members of the societies.
