In the first six months of the current year, China exported 3.969 billion metres of polyester fabrics, showing a year-on-year decline of 0.28 percent, as per China Customs statistics.

It was the first decrease in polyester fabric exports from China since the global financial crisis of 2009.

During the same period, however, China’s exports of nylon fabrics swelled by 11.62 percent year-on-year to 106 million metres.

Overall, China imported 583 million metres of synthetic fabrics during January-June 2012 period, registering a fall of 8.44 percent year-on-year. In terms of value, too, synthetic fabric imports dipped 3.79 percent year-on-year to US$ 1.011 billion.

The decline in synthetic fabric imports reflects weak demand in Chinese domestic market.
