Lumiere offers employment to differently-abled youths

Lumiere, a trendsetter in knitted fabric manufacturing in Sri Lanka, has come forward to offering employment opportunities to three young differently-able youths.  This segment of people generally known as ‘differently able-d’ is conceived as a burden to the society unfortunately due to no fault of theirs.

Born with certain deficiencies these individuals have very few avenues and openings to advance in life just as any other human being does.   Currently such individuals are looked after by their parents until their adulthood and perhaps, demise or left in the care of a home run either by the Government or philanthropists on donations meant for such destitute or orphaned children and adults.

Lumiere being comprised of the unfortunate destiny of these people who have done no harm to the society came forward graciously to give them the opportunity for both training initially and then, employment in its mill situated at BEPZ.

We are proud that at 6% of Lumiere workforce now consist of youth  from this uncared but deserving segment of society and a further 4% will be undergoing training at any given time at our facility. It is a great and perhaps an unparallel CSR initiative in the corporate sector today.

Lumiere has already set a number of firsts in the industry through its novel initiatives in fabric production.  It is commendable that the company has now embarked in its new initiatives in the area of corporate social responsibility too.
