Fabric imports turnover reaches $1.17 bn

Vietnamese General Customs Department reported that in May 2006 country imported US $307.2 million worth of fabric of all types, with total import revenue in the first five months reaching $1.17 billion, up 35.1 percent compared to the same period 2005.

China, Taiwan and Korea emerged as the three leading fabric suppliers with sharp growth.

Imports turnover from these three markets in May 2006 are $97.8 million (growth of 50.4 percent), $64 million (up 18.4 percent) and $64 million (up 17.1 percent), respectively.

During the January–May period, these turnovers showed $347.1 million from China (up 59 percent), $202.2 million (26.8 percent) and $205.2 million (24.1 percent).

Besides, Vietnam is importing fabric from several markets, including Austria, France and Australia but almost saw decline in turnover.

Major fabric types importing in Vietnam include mixed polyester one worth $126.7 million in the five month–period, cotton fabric for $58 million.
