Kannur, the Manchester of India has been added to the list of towns which have achieved a mark of excellence for export by the Indian Government. Kannur is considered the handloom capital because of its high quality fabric.
PK Manohar, the exporter of handloom from the city, supplies to the US-based Roth Fabric Incorporated which is the biggest importer of handloom fabrics from India and has about 600 high-end customers all over the world.
Manohar exports Lungis to Bangladesh, shirts and bed sheets, crepe apparel to Europe and the United States. Home furnishing products from Kannur are quite favoured in the premium international markets.
Kannur handloom products maintain a unique quality which has given it a virtual monopoly edge in USA, UK, Japan and other European countries.
