Growth of fabric export slows down

According to customs statistics, China's fabric exports, excluding knitted fabrics, completed 11.654 billion meters from January to August 2007, an year-on-year decline of 1.35 percent; Export value amounted to US $11.643 billion, up 4.62 percent over the same time last year.

Average Price stood at $1.00 per meter, up 6.38 percent, representing an increase of 9.94 percent, 12.64 percent and 2.17 percent in quantity, value and price, respectively, from the same time last year. It indicates that China's fabric export growth dropped since this year, while export price continued to grow, following the increase of added value.

In comparison with the same period of last year, the growth of China's fabric exports this year continued to slide down, with a drop of 5 percentage points in the first quarter, 9 points in the second quarter, and a larger drop of 14 percentage points from July to August.

According to relating data, in international industrial chain, the added value created by production links only accounts for 30 percent, while other 70 percent of added value comes from brand-focused R & D and marketing links.

From the situation of China's fabric exports, the average price of China's fabric exports was at $0.79 per meter in 2000, climbed to $0.83 per meter in 2003, and further up to $0.96 per meter in 2006. The average price from January to August this year increased to $1.00 per meter, up 26 percent in a few years.
