Recently, Committee on the Safety of Consumable Products amended the Flammable Fabric Act (FFA), and the new law will formally go into effect from September 22, 2008.
The US established the first law about flammable fabric in 1953. All textile and clothes exported to the US must meet the requirements of this law, or else the enterprises may have to bear a fine as high as US $1.25 million.
FFA covers regulations for common textiles and clothes, children's clothes and sleepwear, carpets as well as the mattress.
In recent years, many countries have started taking the combustibility of fabric seriously, but American laws about flammable fabric are much more strict. Recognizing this, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China has already begun to close inspection of textile and clothes exports.
