Stating that Iran imports black colored fabric for Chador, a clothing covering entire body of the traditional Iranian women, in a big way that makes the country largest consumer of the said fabric, informs general director of Textile Industries Office of Mines and Industries Ministry Golnaz Nasrollahi.
The country manufactures only 6 million meters of fabric and of this only 10-15 percent is allocated for use in Chador while the rest is used for colored fabrics, thus majority of the shortfall is fulfilled by importing it from Japan and Korea, he added.
Currently there are only two black fabric (mainly crepe) making units for Chador in Iran producing average quality fabrics.
More Chador fabric manufacturing units are expected to come up once the study is completed of the sector.
Official records mention that 25-30 million meters of Chador cloth is imported from UAE.
Major hurdles faced by the country for manufacturing this type of fabric are non-availability of sophisticated technology in fabric dyeing particularly in black color, and lack of finance to promote the industry, concluded Nasrollahi.
