High khadi prices put off consumers

The rise in cotton prices has pushed the khadi prices up by 25 to 40 per cent.

This has resulted in a decline in the demand for clothes made of homespun khadi, which utilizes more manpower than other power loom based textile fabrics.

Khadi fabrics which were previously available for around Rs 130 per meter are now selling at around Rs 145-175 per meter.

Considering the high prices, consumers are looking forward to receiving rebates on purchase of khadi.
