US' The LYCRA Company introduces new anti-static hosiery tech

The LYCRA Sheer Sensation technology, infused with a unique anti-static additive, has been shown to counteract static effectively. This benefit is evident even when the hosiery is worn with materials and fabrics typically susceptible to static cling. This anti-static feature, ingrained permanently into the fibre during the manufacturing process, presents the prospect of a static-free garment experience, according to The LYCRA Company's website.

The technology, compatible with machine or handwashing, maintains its anti-static properties, thereby guaranteeing consistent performance. It sets new benchmarks in daily hosiery standards, ensuring uniformity and invisibility of the spandex/elastane fibre.

LYCRA Sheer Sensation technology also boosts dye colour absorption, enabling the manufacture of cling-free hosiery in rich colours, covering all shades. This versatility allows production of hosiery and tights to match different skin tones.

Furthermore, hosiery produced with LYCRA Sheer Sensation technology offers potential water-saving benefits in the manufacturing process. For manufacturers, LYCRA Sheer Sensation fibre can be processed similarly to standard LYCRA fibre. Garments can be dyed without affecting their anti-static properties and can be washed without any reduction in anti-cling performance.

To enhance the anti-static performance of Sheer Sensation technology, it is recommended that sheer hosiery garments of 20 denier or lower are knitted using bare LYCRA fibre. The anti-static performance is further improved when fibres are exposed, increasing the number of potential contact points with clothing.

Static has historically been an issue for the majority of hosiery users. Surveys show that 58 per cent of UK hosiery wearers recognise static as an irritating problem. Significantly, 63 per cent are open to buying tights that can minimise or eliminate this issue, The LYCRA Company added.
